What is PPC?

Pay Per Click or PPC is an online advertisement model used by major search engines in which advertisers pay only when their ad is clicked. Ads are displayed by bidding on or purchasing keywords relevant to your business. When search engines receive searches containing those purchased keywords, ad’s are displayed, creating a targeted traffic model. Search results displayed under the words “sponsored links” are a good example of this. There are other methods of PPC that include ads displayed on content sites such as blogs.

How much does PPC cost?

There are primarily two pricing methods for PPC advertising, Flat Rate PPC and Bid Based PPC. The Flat Rate model is the simplest form where publishers and advertisers agree on a flat Cost Per Click (CPC) for each keyword. The pricing model can vary greatly from under $1 per click to upwards of $50 per click depending upon the keyword purchased. 
The Bid Based model allows advertisers to compete for keywords in an automated private auction. Advertisers inform publishers electronically of the maximum amount that they wish to pay for a keyword. Automated auctions take place every time a search for that keyword occurs. Bids for each keyword are then compared and winners are determined. The ad with the highest bid generally shows up first, though additional factors such as ad quality and relevance can come into play.

How soon should I expect to see results?

This is a very difficult question to answer and it is very important that all of our clients understand that proper SEM is always a work in progress. Some technologies can deliver results very quickly and can gradually be improved over time, like PPC Management and email marketing. Others may take six months or even longer before significant results are reached, like SEO. What kind or return should I see?

You guessed it… this is also different for everyone. Companies with a less mature web strategy may see dramatic results, while companies with a mature web strategy can still experience significant results but to a lesser degree.
